The process is designed to provide a value of carbon emissions on a room per night basis for accommodation or for usage of a meeting room for a half day period. Longer stays or extended events can be extrapolated from this base data.

The process endeavours to take account of the direct emissions. It is a "real world" solution designed to be accessible to the majority of hotel and venue companies with data they currently have or can obtain.

Over time as hotels embrace the carbon agenda and incorporate it into their own supply chain contracting the process will adapt to accommodate indirect emissions. In the mean time we will highlight those who are leading with best practice in environmental responsibility through a three tier recognition scheme.
